Applications

MOFapps applications specialists support you
to find the right material for your application

throughout the full production chain.

Cooling & Dehumidification Systems

MOFs have adsorption properties suitable to dramatically increase the performance of heat conversion systems for example in chillers for cooling processes in IT applications, and in industrial cooling & dehumidification systems replacing current materials like silica gels or zeolites.

Cooling in Data centers using waste heat from CPUs to drive heat pump systems.

Cooling buildings with waste heat from industrial processes like bakeries, power generators or warm waste water.

CO2 Removal

In order to achieve global climate goals and to mitigate greenhouse effects in the atmosphere, CO2 removal from the atmosphere is considered a supporting step.

MOFs can play a key role in finding energy friendly ways of CO2 removal and storage.

Water harvesting from air

Over 2 billion people , especially in arid areas suffer from shortage of water for personal consumption or irrigation for their fields. Global warming leading to more irregular weather patterns will increase this problem. Taking humidity from air and condensing it to drinkable water could be a life saving technology for millions. MIL 160 driven devices have proven to be extremely efficient in adsorbing water from ambient air and to regenerate at comparable  low temperatures. MOFapps technology can supply MIL 160 for these applications at comparable low cost and favorable desorption characteristics allowing an economic process at low energy consumption.

Protection

MOFs can be used to absorb toxic gas in civil and defence applications from protection masks in laboratories or chicken farms to airfilters in cars or homes.

MOFs can be designed to be part of HVAC systems to specifically filter an airstream from potentially hazardous materials to ensure acceptable working conditions.

MOFapps have developed a special MOF material from the UiO-66 Zr MOF family which has shown superior filter performance over commonly used materials like activated carbons. MOFs can be impregnated with metal ions in order to broaden their range of application.
